In Which
shadowkitty is a Bad Feminist.
I was thinking about making a new header for myself, of all the female characters I really love to bits. Then I realised the horrifying truth.
There's three of them. Shadowcat, Ace, & Starbuck. This is just embarrassing. All they seem to have in common is that they like explosions & hitting people. I don't know what that says about me... actually I know exactly what that says about me, but never mind.
You would think there would be some from Buffy or Firefly, but no, apparently I don't identify with Joss' women enough. Maybe Zoe. Maybe. I like his male characters just fine. It's strange, because Joss is usually held up as being one of the best at writing women.
But you know what? I wouldn't swap those three for any male character anywhere.

I love tons of female characters though, and I can never quite figure out why when so many people don't.
I've yet to find a female character I totally can identify with--as I've ranted extensively before, the women who have exciting lives (Buffy, Joan of Arcadia, Jaye of Wonderfalls, etc) generally resist them for ill-defined reasons, probably because the mostly male writers can't think of a real reason for dramatic tension. *grump*
Now Ace in her 20s...mayhap.
Ace ftw, not enough Ace in the world. I also like girls who blow crap up.
