In Which [personal profile] shadowkitty is a Bad Feminist.

I was thinking about making a new header for myself, of all the female characters I really love to bits. Then I realised the horrifying truth.

There's three of them. Shadowcat, Ace, & Starbuck. This is just embarrassing. All they seem to have in common is that they like explosions & hitting people. I don't know what that says about me... actually I know exactly what that says about me, but never mind.

You would think there would be some from Buffy or Firefly, but no, apparently I don't identify with Joss' women enough. Maybe Zoe. Maybe. I like his male characters just fine. It's strange, because Joss is usually held up as being one of the best at writing women.

But you know what? I wouldn't swap those three for any male character anywhere.

Nah, I don't think you have to love lots of female characters to be a good feminist. (If you even do want to be a good feminist, which I guess is another issue.)

I love tons of female characters though, and I can never quite figure out why when so many people don't.

I'm starting to think this comment sounds off, at least in the sense of "too serious." I was just sort of musing, if that helps.

I think being a tomboy all these years has made me identify more strongly with male characters. At least I know it, I suppose!
