the cohen version makes more sense if you realise he spent two decades making records with deliberately dodgy muzak backings
the wainwright one really annoys me because i) it sounds EXACTLY like cale's piano-solo one that got licensed in a shitload of films ii) it was recorded the year cale started to refuse permission to use it in films
