Conversations With My Parents

Mum: *listening to radio about the dangers of giving children alcohol, occasionally laughing her head off*

Me: did you know Americans can't drink 'til they're 21?

Mum: what, seriously? That's terrible! *thinks* How old do they have to be to buy guns?

Me: uh, I dunno. Younger, I guess.

Mum: well, if they're not old enough, they could go to the shop with the gun & say 'give me a drink!'

My mum; advocate of armed robbery, but only when you really need a drink.

Huh. I'm actually surprised more people haven't done that now.

My 20 year old cousin is going to America soon. I think you might hear of a case then >:)

Lol. This whole drink thing is ridiculous. The kids who drink in fields/parks age 14 are the ones whose parents won't let them drink at all and so they think they are being rebels. If drink wasn't demonised so much less kids would think they were being rebels having a drink. Plus kids are going to drink anyway whatever we do. Personally my Mum let me try wine as a kid and I hated the taste and I hate the taste of alcohol now.

Oh and I think you can get a gun in the states when you are 18.

Yeah, my dad managed to completely put me off whiskey by making me try it. It backfired when he tried to put me off poteen & I asked for more!

Oh, if only that conversation weren't so sadly true. What's even more hilarious is when teens drink in a dry county, where the sale of alcohol is prohibited.

US federal law is:
- Persons less than 18 years of age for the purchase of a shotgun or rifle (basically, hunting weapons).
- Persons less than 21 years of age for the purchase of a firearm that is other than a shotgun or rifle.

Before the first school shooting, people would drive to high school with their hunting rifles hanging in the back of their pickup trucks.

I think my aunt & her family actually smuggled their own alcohol in, when they lived in Jordan. I'm not sure if it's a dry country, but my (then 16 or so) cousin definitely wrangled her share of it.

Sometimes I wonder why I'm so weird, but then I realise it's all genetic!

US perspective
I love your Mum.

My friends and I just went to my father's fridge o' beer. He had a separate fridge in the basement solely for beer. Suffice it say, when I got to college, I was the one nursing various friends through mild alcohol poisoning, already knowing when to stop.

Re: US perspective
That sounds pretty similar to me, actually. I still raid the liquor cabinet on occasion :)

is there any other reason to commit armed robbery?
